Among Friends; A Danielle Harris Directorial Premiere
Among Friends
I’m gonna level with all of you, I AM A SUCKER FOR THEME PARTIES! If I can wear a costume and play around all night, sign me right the fuck up. Right meow.
This movie takes us to a party thrown by Bernadette (Alyssa Lobit, also the writer of the film). It’s a murder mystery party where the theme is 1980’s pre-prom party style. Already a good start. Anyways, so when they sit down to eat, it turns out that Bernadette drugged them all and made it impossible for them to move. So she tied them all to their chairs and forced them to watch home videos she secretly took of them. Guess what? They’re all terrible people and the home videos prove it. Bernadette takes her revenge by torturing them and pinning them against each other.
It’s Danielle Harris as the director in this gruesome party rock anthem. Personally, I like how she did this movie, I also enjoy that the lead actress is also the writer. It’s intimate in a weird way. But we’ve all known that Miss. Harris has been the Queen of Scream for years upon years now. So, why would she produce anything other then a good movie? “That was a rhetorical question” (HA! quotes the movie... well para phrased it. Watch it, you’ll get the joke).

Example: Bernadette says she’s going to give Sara a hair cut as punishment. Blane says it’s just a hair cut and that it’s not that bad. Turns out hair cut means scalped. Like twisted right? Or Jules, who is fucked up on mushrooms and tripping hard, screams “yes” a bunch of times thinking she’s on set of movie (cause she’s fried). When, actually, she was casting her vote for Bernadette to castrate Bowen’s character. Painful right?
**Side Note: A.J.Bowen is totally my lumberjack man crush when he sports a beard. Damn boy!
Among Friends is ironically named, considering how can these people be friends?
It just goes to show that you’re truly yourself when you thinking no one’s looking.
How does this relate to the female genre? Well apart from the fact that most of the cast is made up by girls, the writer is a girl and the director is the Queen of Scream herself. That’s how it fits into this whole thing! Obviously!
I give this movie over all, a solid 85%. I really liked it. Ba-BAM!!

Alright so I have a hilarious story behind this movie. This guy, who was trying to date me invited me over for a movie night with him and some buddies saying they were gonna watch this movie called “Inside” about a pregnant women and a nurse. So, I was like alright, sounds boring but hey, maybe I’ll be otherwise distracted. Wink wink, nudge nudge.
Well, turns out the movie is a bit more complicated then that. It’s actually about a pregnant women who is being stalked by a crazed nurse who wants to destroy her life and steal her baby. Needless to say, I was more involved with the movie then with my boy toy. But the best part of the night was my buddy going “Well, the pregnant lady killed her baby by accident, so clearly all of that death and destruction was justified.”

Spoiler Alert! that was the crazy plot twist ending to this movie. It turned out (in a flashback sequence) that the pregnant lady accidentally smashed her car into the nurses car who was pregnant and she lost her kid, so that meant, fuck you bitch I’m taking yo baby now. Totally justifiable.
I will give the movie some solid female credit. Both leads, victim (Alysson Paradis) and murderer (Beatrice Dalle) were women, and they both showed amazing emotions (or in the case of the nurse...lack of emotions). Not to mention the gore is intense. She cuts the baby out of her stomach on the staircase while blood pours out of her like a dump truck... oh I forgot to say instead of a knife she used a pair of sewing scissors.
I can never look at my sewing kit the same again. Not that I use it all that often, but I can assure you I never used it to steal a pregnant ladies baby.
Heads up, it’s in French. So unless you speak French, be forewarned that you will be reading subtitles. If that is no issue for you then by all means, watch the shit out of this movie! If that is an issue for you, grow up and read a book. I'm a ditzy blonde bimbo and even I read, so what does that say about you eh ;)?

Drop Dead Gorgeous: TRON PROM
Warning! Has nothing to do with horror and everything to do with fashion and TRONOk so the movie...let’s face it sucked.
The game, however, was pretty kickass. I say was, cause I haven’t played it in years upon years.
But with the release of TRON and TRON 2 (if theres no TRON 2 then clearly you all talked about it enough that it made me think there was a second...shame on you), it’s only fitting that we fit ourselves into a little nerd-dom fashion.

Update: TIFF Line Up
Alright my pretties, so this week kicks off the Toronto International Film Festival or TiFF for those of you who aren’t in the loop. Which in most cases it would mean Canada gets exciting. Good for them. I’m proud to say that my Canadian street team, whom I love, will be attending a few of these screenings. I’m not sure which ones, I just said see some horror themed ones and let me know. Hopefully, they do because I’d like to post about dee’s here movies. The line up is exciting though.
We got, what looks like a serious German flick, and if I know anything about the German’s it’s that they are a serious group of people. It’s called The Station. Anyways, it’s about wildlife and glaciers and being up in the German Alps and things go bad. Heads up, did not know that Germany had Alps, thanks Amurican Education.

Also, and this one I am really excited, my secret Director crush, Eli Roth is releasing his new Cannibal flick, The Green Inferno. Now when I looked this up, I didn’t know it was an Eli Roth movie, I thought it was some stupid film from the 80s... turns out I was watching the wrong trailer. I’d say haha blonde moment...but fuck you.
I couldn’t find a trailer. I also didn’t look very hard.

Drop Dead Gorgeous: Skin Shoes

Hopefully not real skin but really, no matter how you slice it...it's creepy and fantastic and I love it.

This hot piece of woman meat has starred in the Hatchet series, Halloween 4, The Victim, Among Friends, ChromeSkull: Laid To Rest, and so on and so forth. It’s like k we get it, you’re hot and talented and earned the title Scream Queen. If I had a crown, I would place upon your gorgeous head of brown hair.
Not to freaking mention that she directed Among Friends on top of starring in it. Hi, in love with the fashion in that movie. This girl has taken the underground by storm in a totally hot way.
She also frequents the Halloween movies made by Rob Zombie. How cool is that? Let’s be real, you all just got a little jealous and a little wet. And she starred in this awesome TV show called Fear Clinic. Oh and did I mention that in her younger years she appeared in a episode of Boy Meets World? Oh, I didn’t? Pardon me. Seriously though, Boy Meets World. That’s a solid cameo.
Let’s be real she has been in more horror films since she was a kid than most actors do in their whole careers...and for that I salute you Danielle. You can see it, but imagine me saluting you. Can’t wait for Night Of The Living Dead: Origins, which I hear might be in 3D. Keep your eyes out for that cupcake.

Fuck, I remember when you couldn’t turn on something without seeing her. She was all over Party of Five, solid piece of TV programming but then she really hit it freaking big when she started doing the Scream films. Oh yeah, NOW we remember her. Personally, I’m not a super fan of these movies. PERSONAL OPINION, sorry only I’m not sorry. I just found them to be slightly cookie cutter and what you would except from a high school horror film. Nothing against no one. I still love Wes Craven and all of his other works. But according to Wayne’s World if I wanted everybody to like me, I would be in the BeeGee’s.
Also she is 40 and still a smoke show! Props girlfriend!
Anyways, back to my main point, Neve Campbell. You made it so cool to be a witch. The Craft was kick-ass and secretly all through out high school I wished I had sweet magical powers. But when she started doing cinematic adventures such as Nightmare On Elm Street, Black Christmas, Taken etc, I was impressed. I rooted for her characters. I kind of devolved a girl crush on her. She broke the bubble gum pop princess mold and popped her way into a genre that’s completely the opposite of her father (Who taught us that love isn’t something we should be afraid of, there’s no cure for it). This cutie pie actress is also a regular on Arrow and Supernatural, two solid television programs. I am excited excited to see what she has got on the go in the future. Unless it’s more Melrose Place, than... I’m good. That’s scary on a whole different level.
Excited to see her upcoming film Kill For Me where two roommates with abusive boyfriend decide to toy with the idea of murder to solve their problems.

This movie premiered in 2011 at the Midnight Madness (in Toronto...in Canada). Anyways, since then I have seen it. Basically there’s this like wedding anniversary getaway at this KICKASS house (who are these people?!). During dinner someone shoots Ti West in the face with a cross bow. BAM!! Shit gets real and it turns into a home invasion by three dudes in cheap animal masks. Crazy right?! Anyways, so, then a girlfriend (Sharni Vinson) of the guys at the reunion (AJ Bowen) becomes the heroin of this story! Out of freaking no where she all “I got this!” and starts setting traps and barricading the entry ways. Like she’s got mad survival skills because for some reasons that’s how you’re raised in the Outback. Anyways, you gotta see it to get the full picture of this picture. Seriously. Do it. I’ll wait.

Now, when I first heard that Sharni Vinson was going to be the surprise hero of the movie, I was a little taken back. She’s the hottie dancer from Step Up 3D. I’m not saying it was any sort of a bad thing...just I didn’t know how that was going to go down. And go down it did! Sharni proved that girls can save the day and have crazy random knowledge of how to survive in terrible situations. Much like most dudes in EVERYTHING. What? Girls can’t have survival instincts too? Puh-Lease! This girl is tough, and I’m going to say right now, I am sorry for any doubt I had about you Sharni. You kick ass on the dance floor as well as the killing floor (and you look great doing it).

Deliciously Sinful: Alien Cake
So on my journey's into the shitty world of the internet I came across this cake. I have no clue who made it, where it came from or even if it's vanilla or chocolate. It had better be chocolate, though. Anyways, here is probably one of the coolest cakes I've ever seen.

Horror in the Home: Garden Zombies
Hey ladies!
So, this is my new section called "Horror in the Home" and it's ALL about how to make your home scary without being tacky.
So our first item up and actually a personal favourite of mine and if I ever figure out how to garden you bet I'll be getting a number of these to put everywhere.
There called Garden Zombies. You put them in your garden like a lawn gnome and people think the dead are raising from your garden. If that doesn't say "Stay Off My Lawn" then I don't know what does.

Update: Toronto FanExpo/Festival of Fear 2013
So this weekend was the Toronto FanExpo 2013, featuring the Toronto Festival of Fear 2013. Now, granted I wasn't there so I can't say shit. But my people were there for me and got the low down that some amazing females did some amazing panels.
The Soska Twins, who I am currently in love with, did a panel there about film making and making American Mary and being kick ass females in the horror industry. Glad to see their spreading their world across North America, even if it is in Canada. Also a shout out to Tristan Risk, star of American Mary and sexy Burlesque performer.
Barbara Crampton was also there, promoting her most recent film You're Next (there's already an article written about it, check back for details.) and SADDEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE there was a From Beyond and a Re-Animator reunion. I missed it. There is nothing but sadness on my end. But she's amazing so no doubt the panel was a riot.
Linda Hamilton also made a solid appearance as well, she's pretty bad ass as Sarah Connor so mad props to her. Also, she's kind of a hero of mine because of her crazy jacked but still hot. Tough but sexy. Good combo.
